Shirley Jean Bragg

Shirley Jean Salter Bragg, age 78, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024 at home in Statesboro Georgia under the care of Gentiva Hospice. Shirley was born in Bulloch County and raised in Statesboro Georgia. She graduated from Marvin Pittman Laboratory in 1964. In 1965 she married Danny E. Bragg. Shortly following their marriage, Danny was sent to Vietnam where he served with the rank of Sergeant E5 in the Army’s Airborne Division. Following a severe injury from a helicopter crash on March 13, 1966 and 18 months in the Walter Reed hospital, Danny returned home to Statesboro GA where Shirley & Danny spent the remainder of their lives together. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & homemaker. Shirley was a charter member of Bible Baptist church and attended services regularly up until July 2020 when health issues forced her to be homebound.

Shirley was preceded in death by Danny Bragg, her loving husband of 55 years, parents Kelly & Lula Mae Smith Salter, two sisters, Betty Lanier & Faye Campbell & brother Jack Salter.

Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Jill Navarro (Rafael) and her son Jeff Bragg. She also leaves behind her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Patrick Navarro, Daniel Navarro (Paige), Jessica Navarro, Nicholas Navarro (Breanna Taylor), Danny Medellin (Jennifer Hinojosa) and Ashlee Bragg. Shirley’s most recent happiness was the birth of he r great-granddaughter Kaelie Medellin in July 2023 and the anticipation of the births of two great-granddaughters Adrianna Grace Navarro (August) & Della Jane Navarro(September).

Also surviving is a very special person in Shirley’s life. Teresa was the wife of Jack Salter and even though they were sister in laws, they loved each other like sisters.

The Family will receive visitors Wednesday July the 24 th from 10:00 am until the Funeral hour in the Chapel of Bulloch Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Mausoleum at Bulloch Memorial Gardens with Dr. Max Alderman Officiating

Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens
