Ms. Mildred Horton Hughes, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, departed this life on June 6, 2025, at the age of 75 at Memorial Health Medical Center in Savannah after a brief illness. Born on August 4, 1949, in Savannah, Georgia, Mildred made her journey through life with grace, love, and devotion to her family and faith.
Mildred was a dedicated beautician whose skilled hands and passionate spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she served. She had a remarkable talent for not just transforming appearances but also uplifting spirits, embodying compassion and kindness through her work.
A woman of deep faith, Mildred served the Lord with all her heart, finding joy in her spiritual journey and sharing that joy with those around her. She was a steadfast source of strength for her family.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Hughes, Sr., her father, Willie Ramsey, her mother, Lottie Ferguson, a sister, Josephine Sweet, and a brother, Thomas Ramsey.
Mildred leaves her memories to be cherished by her sons: Robert Blake Sr., Miguel Hughes, Terrell Hughes, and James Hughes Jr.; daughters-in-law Cristen Brinson-Hughes, Erika Hughes, and Wanda Blake; and beloved siblings Dr. Bernice Early, Arthur Mae Lewis, and Thomas Ramsey; she is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mildred Horton Hughes will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on through the love and memories shared by all who knew her. We take solace in the knowledge that she is now at peace, serving the Lord in a place of eternal light.
Viewing for Ms. Hughes will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 2:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Thomas Grove Baptist Church, 500 E Olliff St, Statesboro, GA 30458, with Rev. Mary Frances Odom-Lee, presiding and Rev. Matthew H. Lovett, eulogist.
