Michael Sam DiGiovanni, 76, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, after a short illness with his family by his side.
Mike was born on August 19,1947, in Independence, Louisiana, to Mike DiGiovanni and Rosa Maddie DiGiovanni. Mike was drafted into the Army after graduating from high school. He proudly served his country in Vietnam and made Savannah, Georgia, his home when he returned. He later moved to Effingham County. Spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, watching and coaching sports, and cooking for his loved ones were his passions. His delicious meatball sandwiches were well known far and wide. One knew once they entered Mike’s kitchen, they would never leave hungry.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters, and his step-son, Graham Smith. He is survived by his wife, Mickie DiGiovanni, son, Joe DiGiovanni (Jamie), daughter, Michaela DiGiovanni, step-son, Jarrod Smith, step-daughter, Alana Grosse (Drew), seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
