Mr. Melvin Usher Bowers Jr., age 70, passed away on July 8, 2023, at his home in his baby sister’s arms. Mr. Bowers was born in Savannah, Georgia to the late Melvin Bowers Sr. and Elvie Smith Bowers on March 31, 1953. Mr. Bowers was a Veteran and served his country in the United States Army.
Following Mr. Bowers Honorable Discharge from the Army, he moved to Bainbridge, GA where he worked as a supervisor for AMOCO Carpet and Fibers. Mr. Bowers later moved to Hoover, AL and worked for PROPEX INC. before retiring in 2018 and relocating to Portal, GA to be with family. Mr. Bowers enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowers is preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas Paul Mario Yates.
Mr. Bowers leaves behind a wife, Sherrie Bowers; one daughter, Barbara Ann Bowers Yates and her husband Kirk of Peoria, Il; one son, Jeremy James Bowers and his wife Kayla of Pinedale, WY; three sisters, Christine Pamela Wilson of Guyton, GA., Julie Lynn Hauser of Rincon, GA., and Connie Marie Brown of Portal, GA.; one brother, Carol Dean Bowers and husband Jimmy Silvey of Rincon, GA.; three grandsons, Geoffrey Michael Duval and Louis Alexander Raymond Yates of Preoria, Il., and Alexander James Bowers of Pinedale, WY.; one great granddaughter, Ezmae Loray Duval of Denver, CO.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family will receive visitors on Monday July 17 from 9:30am until 11:00am at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The service will be held on Monday at 1:00pm at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glenville, GA with military honors.
