Marvin R. Boring passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Shirley R. Boring. Marv was born on May 4, 1930 in Oil City, PA. After high school he worked the Great Lakes Oar boats as a fireman and coal passer. He attended Penn State University, studying Civil Engineering. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
Marv joined th US Army in November 1952. He married Shirley Ross on December 26, 1952 at First Baptist Church in Oil City, PA. He attended OCS training at Ft. Belvoir in Virginia and graduated as a 2nd Lt. Marv was then stationed in Korea and returned stateside in 1954. He finished his tour at Ft. Belvoir. He was discharged from the army as a 1st LT but stayed in the reserves for seven more years and was discharged with the rank of Captain. After active duty he moved to Angola, Indiana where he finished his Civil Engineering degree. He was the President of his class in 1957.
Marv, Shirley, and their small family moved to Columbus, OH where he worked in the Precast Concrete Industry. He was a member of the following professional organizations: Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, Ohio Contractors Association, Engineer Club of Columbus (past president), Ohio Concrete Pipe Association, American Pipe Association and the Technical Committee for American Society Testing and Materials for precast concrete drainage products.
Surviving are three daughters: Lizabeth Staley (Henry) of Jacksonville, Florida, Lori Klayman (Don) of Hoschton, Georgia and Melinda Richard (Stephen) of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jamie Staley (Dana), Aimee Williams (Eric), Angela Forino (Tony), David Staley (Erin), Carrie Channels (Stefan), Keenan Klayman (Sarah), Philip Klayman (Anna) and Jeremy Richard. Marv had 18 great-grandchildren that he loved very much.
Marv and Shirley were members of Mountain Baptist Church for over 65 years.
A memorial service for both Marv & Shirley will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Schoedinger Margarum Northeast, 1051 E. Johnstown Road, Gahanna, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.
