Mrs. Evelyn Chester Pope Hendrix, age 84, died on April 30, 2025 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1959 graduate of Marvin Pittman High School. Mrs. Evelyn worked as a loan officer with Southern Discount for over 25 years and retired from Pope Construction. She loved her family, friends, traveling and shopping. Mrs. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Doyce and Eunice Dickerson Chester, her first husband Donnie Pope and two brothers Wade Chester and Jack Chester; also a sister Carolyn Lucas.
Surviving is her husband of nine years Robert Hendrix of Statesboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and NeNe Pope of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law Jana and Rob Sharp of Statesboro; four grandchildren J.D. (Monica) Pope of Statesboro, Coley Pope (John Hensley) of Denver, CO, Fischer Sharp and Spencer Sharp all of Statesboro; two great grandchildren Dee Pope and Cooper Pope; her step sons and their wives Brian and Hilda Hendrix and Mark and Lori Hendrix; her step grandchildren Heather Hendrix, Alan Hendrix and Hannah Beth Hendrix; a sister Joyce Kennedy of Statesboro; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ronnie and Sherry Pope of Statesboro, several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to express their appreciation for her caregivers Chris Swan, Gwen Lanier and Sandra Shaw.
A visitation will be held on Saturday May 3rd from 10:00 am until 11:30 a.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service in the Chapel at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will follow in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Fischer Sharp, Spencer Sharp, J.D. Pope, Frankie Kennedy, Scott Pope and Wes Pope.
