February 17, 1936 - August 23, 2024
Daniel (Dan) Emory Stringer, 88, of Lexington South Carolina peacefully entered the gates of his heavenly home while resting in his earthly home on August 23, 2024. Dan (daddy) lived a full, healthy, and happy life. His path included several earthly homes to include: Cairo, Georgia, Statesboro, Georgia, Macon Georgia and Lexington, South Carolina.
He was born in February 1936, in Cairo Georgia to a loving Christian family who raised him on the family farm. He was baptized at the age of 10 and attended Pine Park Baptist church. As the roots only grew deeper throughout his life, he was a great example to everyone who knew him.
He graduated from Cairo High School in 1954, and ABAC college in 1956. After college, he was a representative for International Harvester and later worked at International Fertilizer & Chemical as a salesman. He lived in Statesboro for over 30 years, where he raised Sheila (daughter) and Ronnie (son) while married to Glenda (Deloach) and jointly with Glenda owned and operated Stringer Tire Service. He was also a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church during this time, while he served as, Sunday School treasurer and was active in other capacities of the church such as the church softball team and working with the youth activities.
Life transitioned in 1988, when he met and married Betty Brown, he then moved to Cairo where he called it "back home". While living in Cairo they were able to be close to immediate family and serve and work in their community. He served and attended the Cairo First Methodist Church, worked with the Grady County tax assessors and he and Betty also operated Stringer's Garden Spot. Noting his life treasures were "people" and gardening. In 1997, he and Betty moved to Macon, Georgia to serve and work at Agape Village working with mentally challenged adults and managing a fifty-acre tract of land sponsored by Methodist Ministries. As another change took place in 1999 to date, they moved to Lexington, South Carolina to be closer to Betty's sons (John and David Dieterly) and their families. During this time, he briefly worked part-time at ACE hardware and Thompson Funeral Home.
Through the years he enjoyed, being with his family and serving the Lord in all capacities to include Sunday morning sermons and singing hymns, taking a walk, just being with people or doing something for them.
As he traveled through his simple life, he strived to make everyone happy. He gave all he had in every part of his life, noting most abundantly his love. As he lay bedridden in his last days, he said, "I'm sorry I didn't ever have enough". Nevertheless, over the years he attended family weddings, births, dance recitals, football, baseball and soccer games, birthday parties, and graduations all of which made family gatherings complete and more than ENOUGH. Prior to becoming ill and unable to travel, he celebrated "HIS" 87th birthday with immediate family in Statesboro and for the final family celebration in Lexington he was able to attend was his grandson's Michael's wedding in May 2023. As he was near the end of life, he was intermittently surrounded by all his family, while receiving phone calls and texts from both family and lifetime friends. Dan lived a complete life as best described in Ecclesiastes 3.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Stringer, sons John Dieterly (Patti Clark), David (Glenda Klein) Dieterly all of Lexington South Carolina, Ronnie A. (Shelley Barnes) Stringer, and daughter Sheila Stringer Hutchens (P. Todd) of Statesboro, Georgia.
