October 20, 1959 - October 24, 2024
Carol Murray, age 65 of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 24 at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta after suffering a stroke during a Carotid endarterectomy. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be forever remembered by her kind heart and contagious laugh.
Carol was born on October 20, 1959 to her late parents, Gwen Stroup Powell and Ed Stroup in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout her lifetime, Carol owned several businesses, but in her eyes her greatest achievement was her family.
She married the love of her life, Lee Murray, and together they raised three daughters: Christy, Mandy and Margaret.
Carol loved people and loved to talk and laugh, especially at her own jokes. She bragged on her daughters and grandchildren every chance she got. She had a special relationship with each one. She loved cooking for everyone and anyone and would give the shirt off her back to a stranger. She was so smart and knew so much about everything, especially anything to do with history, politics and Hollywood scandals. She loved hard and forgave easily, never held a grudge and had the strongest faith in God. She never feared dying because she knew Jesus was in Heaven waiting for her. She was looking forward to being reunited with the father of her girls.
Carol was predeceased in death by her husband, Lee Murray, her mother, Gwen Powell, her father, Ed Stroup, and her baby brother that she always said was like her own child, Jason Hudgins.
She is survived by her daughters, Christy (Matt) Smith, Mandy (Bo) Broadwell, Margaret (James) Hall, all of Statesboro, Georgia: seven grandchildren, Carson Smith and Ben Smith, of Statesboro, Harrison Broadwell and Caroline Broadwell, of Statesboro, Max Hall, Jackson Hall and Kate Hall, of Statesboro; a sister Rhonda (Mark) Barlow of Duluth, Georgia, and two brothers, Ben (Patty) Stroup of Nowata, Oklahoma, and Doug (Karen) Hudgins of Downsville, Louisiana, as well as her beloved cat, Jenny, and her grand-dogs, Chico, Roscoe, Roxie, Sandy, and Bella.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 11:00am at First Baptist Church Statesboro with Dr. John Waters and Rev. Joey Fennell officiating.
The family would like to express sincerest gratitude to the nurses and providers at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, Georgia for providing the best care possible for Carol in her final days, but especially to her Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Jospeh Tingen. Although she was in the neuro ICU, Dr. Tingen remained involved in her plan of care until the end and was at her bedside every day praying relentlessly for her and her family.
