Young ladies set to learn positive enrichment skills in Sylvania

The Hawk Enrichment Center in Sylvania, GA will host A Positive ME on Saturday, February 25.

The Hawk Enrichment Center in Sylvania, GA will host "A positive ME" event for young ladies on Saturday, February 25, at 1p.m. This event will enrich ladies ages 15 and above with skills for a better future. Chris Thomas, executive director of Hawk Enrichment Center, mentions that his staff members are women and all had input for topics for this event.

"We wanted to address issues in underlying communities," Thomas said. "One of the aspects that this particular workshop is geared towards young women, confirming affirmations, build self-esteem."

Thomas also mentions that they are working to partner with local work stores, which is also branch with the Department of Labor.

The list of topics for the event are:

  • Personal Hygiene
  • Career Networking (job interview, presentation, resume building,etc.)
  • Finances
  • Self-Esteem
  • Education and more

There will be sessions for single women tackling how to raise children, managing finances, and continuing education. Dr. Sharonda Baker, One Stop Operator Manager of Worksource Coastal, will be the keynote speaker. Baker is a Sylvania native and is excited to share her experience pushing through as a single mother and dealing with difficulties and making it on top. 

Other upcoming events for the Hawk Enrichment Center will be the annual community Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Youth Camp, and a STEM program working with staff and students from Georgia Southern University.
