Two individuals from Southern Manor at Candler Senior Living on Hwy. 46 East (formerly Cedar Plantation) have been arrested on charges of neglect and exploitation of a disabled adult/elderly person who was a resident at the facility.
According to Candler County Sheriff’s Reports, the individual was found walking on train tracks in front of Southern Manor at Candler Senior Living in the early morning hours of June 23, 2023. She informed deputies that she had been kicked out of the facility. Candler Deputies and the victim’s family made temporary arrangements for the victim.
Following the investigation, two arrests were made on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. Ralph Cowart, co-owner and CEO of Southern Manor at Candler Senior Living, and Meghan McCullough, both of Statesboro, have been charged with felony neglect to a disabled adult, elder person or resident, felony exploitation and intimidation of disabled adults/elder persons; misdemeanor reckless conduct and protection of disabled adults and elder persons.
According to Candler County Sheriff’s Investigator Justin Wells, the case was turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. We have reached out to the GBI and will have more information as it becomes available.
