TRAFFIC ALERT: Veterans Memorial Parkway closure 12/4-12/8 between 301 and Cypress Lake Road

Plan now to find an alternative route if you travel Veterans Memorial Parkway West of Hwy. 301 South to Cypress Lake Road from Monday, 12/4 through Friday, 12/8. The parkway will be closed for railroad repairs. Read story for suggested detour routes.

Electronic signs alerting motorist to Veterans Memorial Parkway temporary closure

One of the most requested railroad improvement projects on the Veterans Memorial Parkway at Monster Self Storage near Jimmy Britt CJDR  in the City of Statesboro is finally going to move forward.  The improvements will require road closure for a week beginning on Monday, December 4th.  Local traffic to businesses in the area will remain open.

Patriot Rail’s Georgia Southern Railroad (GS) will be working in coordination with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the City of Statesboro, and Bulloch County to complete grade crossing maintenance work at the Veterans Memorial Parkway/US 25 Bypass railroad crossing in Statesboro, Ga.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 4, 2023, and be completed by Friday, December 8, 2023.

During this time, the crossing will be completely closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

GDOT has planned and approved a detour during the closure.

SR 73/US 301 AT US 301BY/US 25BY/VETERANS MEMORIAL PKWY

Traffic will detour 3.00 miles northbound on SR 73/US 301/US 25/S. Main St. to SR 26/US 80/SR 67/Northside drive, then turn left. Traffic will travel west on SR 26/US 80/SR 67 for 2.1 miles to SR 25BY/SR67BY/US301BY where the detour ends.

US 301BY/US 25BY/VETERANS MEMORIAL PKWY at SR 73/US 301

Traffic will detour 4.2 miles north on SR 25BY/SR67BY/US301BY to SR 26/US 80/SR 67/Northside drive, then turn right. Traffic will travel east for approximately 2.1 miles on SR 26/US 80 to SR 73/US 301/US25/S. Main St., then turn right. Traffic will travel 3.00 miles south on SR 73/US 301/US 25/S. Main St., where the detour ends.

SR 67 Bypass (Veterans Memorial Parkway) will remain open to local traffic up to the work zone.
