Tammy Rushing, Administrative Assistant for The City of Statesboro Department of Public Works, is retiring after more than 30 years. Rushing will leave a lasting impact, which can be seen throughout her years of dedicated service to the City of Statesboro.
The heart and soul which she has put into the Public Works Department is evidenced by her countless successful initiatives. And while the department will miss her daily presence, they are excited for her next chapter of her life.
Tammy was recognized by the Statesboro City Council for her three decades of dedicated service to the City of Statesboro and our citizens.

Began in 1992
Rushing started in the Statesboro Public Works department in 1992. Prior to working at The City of Statesboro, Rushing worked for the City of Metter. She had been performing similar public works tasks there already. But once given the opportunity to come to Statesboro, she could not say no.
The city was equally excited to have her. A local article was even published about her, titled “She’s a barefoot country girl who loves her city job.” Her down-home values of service to others never wavered, even as she transitioned into her Statesboro “city job.”
Rushing's love for the Statesboro community has also guided many of her public initiatives to success. One of her most successful initiatives during her years has been the city’s “Rolloff Service.”

The Rolloff Service provides citizens with options for bulk open containers, flatbed rolloff units, or dumpsters, at competitive rates. The Rolloff Service was pioneered by Rushing, with the intentions of bringing a more sanitary environment to the Statesboro community. Rushing herself notes that the sanitation department has experienced progressive change over the past 31 years.
Rushing’s co-workers would describe her as fair, consistent, and dependable. But in the same breath, they would describe her as vibrant and effervescent, with a dynamic personality.
She has had an incredible career, winning multiple awards for her work. Her most notable awards have been for Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year. Rushing considers her department team as a part of her family, making her retirement departure bittersweet. But with her prioritizing quality time with her husband and family now, her department is elated for her post-retirement adventures. Rushing’s lasting impact in the public works department will be seen in its established procedures and customer care areas for years to come.
Rushing's Ole Mill Farm

Now, Rushing and her husband will run the Rushing’s Ole Mill Farm in Register, which sells Christmas trees locally. So now is the perfect time to send Tammy heartfelt retirement wishes while also picking up a Christmas Tree!
For final thanks and remarks, Rushing has these heartfelt thanks to give:
“I would like to thank Bobby Colson, Jason Boyles, and John Washington for being incredible Department Directors to work for. All three of them have helped me out through the years and given me the autonomy to do my job. I am so grateful to have had department heads who trusted me to get the day-to-day job done.”
“I would additionally like to thank the City of Statesboro for 31 great years. The opportunity has arrived for me to retire early with benefits. And I am so excited to enjoy my time with my husband and family on our farm," said Tammy Rushing
