Tim Grams, Statesboro Fire Chief, presented his department's annual report to the Statesboro City Council during a work session last Tuesday. Even though the department has seen their demand for service increase by 190 calls for service between 2021 and 2022, the department maintains one of the lowest averages of fire related property loss in the nation.
- The national average of fire related property loss based on pre-incident assessed value is 31%.
- Statesboro Fire related property loss based on pre-incident assessed value is 1.935%.
Chief Grams highlighted 2022 accomplishments including:
- All operational personnel achieved at least 240 hours of training and met all ISO categories
- Received over $40,000 in grant funding
- Added another certified fire investigator
- Designed and began manufacturing of 2 new fire apparatus (Expected Delivery: Late March/Early April)
- Promoted seven (7) individuals to Company & Chief Officer positions
- 12,435 total training hours
- Over 1,500 inspections completed
- Implemented virtual fire inspection program
- Over 500 smoke alarms installed
Chief Grams was extremely proud of the department's community outreach efforts. The department donated hundreds of canned goods along with money raised to the Statesboro Food Bank. They participated in a variety of community events including the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair, downtown First Friday events, Farmers Markets, and the chili cook-off.
Statesboro Fire Department also maintains and installs twice a year Veterans Day and Memorial Day crosses honoring our community's bravest heroes on the Bulloch County Courthouse lawn.
