Statesboro couple among 4 killed in late night crash

A tragic two car crash in Jenkins County, GA has claimed the lives of four people including a Statesboro couple.

Four people died in a car crash in Jenkins County, Georgia shortly after midnight on Friday night.

Jenkin's County 911 received the call at 12:10am on Saturday, May 11, 2024 to a head on crash on Hwy. 25 at Gays Hill Church Road.

Henry Young, Jenkins County Coroner, confirmed that Lee and Lynde Johnson of Statesboro died in the crash.  Corner Young said Lee, 62, and Lynde Johnson are natives of Jenkins County.

The second vehicle caught fire after impact.  A woman and child died in the second vehicle.  They have not been identified at this time.  

Coroner Young said that their bodies have been transported to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for assistance with identifying what he believes to be a mother and child.  He does not believe they are local to the area.

Georgia State Patrol troopers from Post 21 in Sylvania are handling the investigation.
