The Statesboro-Bulloch County Library has a full list of community events lined up for the summer!
The theme for its Summer Reading Program is “All Together Now”.
This phrase was chosen by the library, as they are partnering with several local organizations to get children engaged with summer reading.
One of their highlighted activities this summer is their “Community Readers” series.
This series reflects the library's summer theme well, as it invites role models and public officials within the community to come out and read to local children (while supporting the improvement of childhood literacy throughout Statesboro).
Grice Connect recently attended the library’s Community Readers event on Wednesday June 14th. The Statesboro Fire Department were the highlighted guests who came to read stories to local children.
During the event, the firefighters read great stories, brought in fire hats, and allowed the kids to spend some time in their fire trucks.
Likewise, on the previous day, the Tormenta team were the highlighted guests during the Tuesday June 13th Community Readers event.
The Tormenta team read great stories, explained how to play soccer, and stayed around to play LEGOS afterwards.

Cindy Hatchell, the Assistant Library Manager and Manager of Youth Services, had this to say on the ongoing success of the Community Reader series.
“This summer our Summer Reading Program theme is All Together Now. Furthermore, we are hosting multiple community events at the library this summer (while promoting our overarching theme of Kindness). One of the community events we have this summer is our Community Readers series. And that is where we invite local organizations and officials to come out to read stories to our children. The local families always enjoy seeing our public officials interact with their children.”
For more information on the upcoming Community Readers events, please view the June 2023 Summer Reading Program Calendar below.

Additionally, another upcoming event which follows the library's summer theme of All Together Now is the "Leading by Reading" event, done in partnership with the City of Statesboro.
The City of Statesboro has partnered with the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library to present “Leading by Reading”. Parents and guardians are invited to have their children join the Statesboro City Council Members at 10am on Tuesday June 27th and Tuesday July 25th for a mid-morning story time.
Children who attend the event will learn about local government and receive a free book and goodie bag to take home. The event is free and open to the public.
