Losing a companion, friend, family member, a neighbor, a casual ‘HEY’ person is the MOST devastating loss that cannot be put into words. I KNOW, I have been there. Trying to get through it. Learning to adjust and move forward, without that ‘extra pair of hands’ or that ‘person to discuss life situations with’ whether it be a casual or colossal event, is a HUGE challenge.
WELL, today I want to introduce you to a program, in Statesboro,Bulloch County, that I have been familiar with for years. We are fortunate to have two locations that conduct this program. However, it has only been in the last 6 years, that I have personally taken advantage of and been involved and it is called GRIEF SHARE. ‘YOUR JOURNEY FROM MOURNING TO JOY’ their brochure says!
The Grief Support Program that I am most familiar with, is CrossRoads Community Church in Statesboro, Bulloch County. They have had this program since 2015. GRIEFSHARE is a support group that meets weekly for 13 sessions.
There are three key parts to your GRIEFSHARE experience:
- VIDEO -Encouraging information- featuring leading grief recovering experts
- SUPPORT -Small group discussions about the weekly videos.
- WORKBOOK-Journaling and personal study exercises.
What I LOVED about the workbooks is that you can do it at your own pace. After being part of Crossroads Community Church’s GRIEFSHARE program for several years, first as a Participant and then Leader and Facilitator, I would love to share the BENEFITS of what OTHER past participants LIKED most!
1. They felt comfortable, in the small group setting, and NO PRESSURE to share their grief circumstances.
2. APPRECIATED, there was a curriculum with a workbook based on ‘Biblical Principles’ and a TRAINED facilitator to lead the sessions.(GRIEFSHARE is a non-denomination program)
3. Videos were so healing, and the topics covered were very HELPFUL, for example ‘What to do with my loved one's belongings?’
4. How do I FACE the Holidays, Birthdays and ALL other occasions?
5. MEETING wonderful people that suffered from loss and made NEW friends.
GRIEFSHARE as the brochure says ‘Help and Encourage after the death of a spouse, child, family member, or friend’.
