SEB Athletic Hall of Fame 2024: Meet the Inductees

Southeast Bulloch's 28th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet is planned for Saturday, April 20, 2024. The banquet will begin at 7pm, and limited tickets are available. Read information on each 2024 inductee here, including John McCormick, O'Bryant (BT) Taylor, David Wells, Ashley Clifton Warren, Nick Cochran, and Marci Cochran.

2024 inductees include John McCormick, Class of 1995; O’Bryant Taylor, Class of 1998; David Wells, Class of 1999; and Ashley Clifton Warren, Class of 2010. Honorary inductees for 2024 are Nick and Marci Cochran.

Southeast Bulloch's 28th Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet will take place in the Southeast Bulloch High School cafeteria on Saturday, April 20, 2024. The banquet will begin at 7pm, and limited tickets will be sold for $10 each.

Meet the 2024 Inductees

JOHN McCORMICK

John McCormick, Class of 1995.

John lettered in football for four years. He was the offensive lineman of the year in 1994 and 1995. John also lettered in baseball for four years. He had the highest batting average in 1994 and was team Captain in 1995. John was an honor graduate. He was involved in Boys State, Key Club, Beta Club, Y-Club, and FFA. John was also selected as a Master 4-H'er. John was selected as Senior Superlative and class representative.

John has been employed with Optim Orthopedics since 2012 after completing a spine surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia. He is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon. In addition, John has been the managing partner at Optim Orthopedics for the past 8 years. John’s practice is based in Savannah, GA and he also has the privilege of caring for patients in their satellite office in Statesboro, GA. Having the opportunity to care for patients in the community where he spent his childhood brings great joy to his life.

The lessons learned through playing team sports are translated into his life today. Caring for patients requires a team of individuals in the clinic and operating room for success. The ideas of respect, creating an environment where the team can succeed, and learning to work with individuals with different personalities are required to play youth sports and vital in obtaining the best possible outcomes for patients.

O’BRYANT TAYLOR

O’Bryant Taylor, Class of 1998.

O’Bryant Taylor, who’s also known as BT Taylor, graduated high school in 1998 from Southeast Bulloch High School. BT’s passion for sports began in his adolescent years, and he was nurtured and coached by many to enhance his skills and knowledge of basketball.

BT was able to achieve many awards which include: eight Grade C-Team Football, eight grade C-team Basketball Offensive Player of the Year, ninth grade B team Defensive Player of the Year, ninth grade Basketball State Playoffs Team, tenth grade basketball varsity Defensive Player of the Year, eleventh grade basketball varsity Most Improved Player, and twelfth grade varsity Most Dedicated Player of the year.

His boys’ basketball team finished his senior season (20-7) and ranked 10th in the state of Georgia in class 2AA. O’Bryant also received the perfect attendance award for all four years in high school.

DAVID WELLS

David Wells, Class of 1999.

David participated in basketball and track/field for four years at Southeast Bulloch. He lettered in basketball and track for four years. He was named the Coastal Empire Player of the Year and received a letter from the Governor’s office. The letter was delivered by the late Senator Jack Hill. David also was named Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year. He received the Statesboro Herald's Player of the Week three times.

David was named Best Rebounder and Best Offensive Player during his four years in high school. He made the region all-tournament team for four years. David was also made the all-tournament team in the Savannah Sugar City Classic. He led his team to sub region champs 3 years in a row. David set a high jump record in track.

ASHLEY CLIFTON WARREN

Ashley Clifton Warren is a 2010 graduate of Southeast Bulloch High School. During her high school years, Ashley was an active FFA member, a Technical Honor Society graduate, and voted by her peers as the Most Athletic Senior Superlative. She played softball, basketball, and soccer from six through twelfth grade, making her a Tri-Athlete each of those seven years.

Her softball career at Southeast Bulloch High School awarded her with All Region 3A, 3rd place in state, Best Offensive Player, Players Choice Award, and being selected as one of 65 players in Georgia for the All-State Softball Tournament. Basketball awarded her with two All Region 2nd teams, Best Offensive Player, and Most Valuable Player. Ashley was awarded Best Defensive Player and Players Choice in soccer.

Throughout her athletic career, Ashley had great coaches at Southeast Bulloch High School. She was blessed with the opportunity to play softball at the next level at East Georgia State College. She received the top hitter award her freshman year, as well as hitting the first homerun in softball history. Ashley received another blessing being recruited by Georgia Southwestern State University to play softball her junior and senior year.

NICK & MARCI COCHRAN, HONORARY INDUCTEES

Honorary inductees for 2024 are Nick and Marci Cochran.

Nick has been a teacher and coach at Southeast Bulloch Middle School since 2004. He has coached football, basketball, golf, soccer, baseball, and track and field. Nick is also the athletic director at Southeast Bulloch Middle School. Nick has been offensive coordinator for the high school football team. Nick has helped his wife Marci lead the Southeast Bulloch high school flag football team to three straight Georgia High School Association state championships.

Nick is the current athletic director for Southeast Bulloch middle school where he coaches middle school football and baseball.

Marci has been a teacher and coach in the Bulloch County school system and was named teacher of the year by her peers at Langston Chapel Elementary School and Brooklet Elementary School. She is currently a first-grade teacher at Brooklet Elementary School. Marci coached basketball at Southeast Bulloch Middle School for nine years, was assistant softball for three years, coached golf for two years, and spent one year as the head girls’ basketball coach at Southeast Bulloch High School.

Marci has been the head coach of the Southeast Bulloch High School girls flag football team, winning three straight Georgia High School Association state championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023, leading to an unprecedented record of 61-0 record over three years.
