Deal Funeral Directors in Statesboro has learned of a scam targeting families the funeral home has served. Their message about the scam is below.
We have been made aware that an individual impersonating funeral home employees is contacting families and asking for additional payment over the phone.
Please be aware that our funeral home will not ever call asking for payment or any information over the phone. Please do not pay any individual over the phone, but call the police immediately.
If you are ever unsure, you are welcome to call us directly and speak with our staff.
Remember, if you are ever unsure about the legitimacy of a call, hang up and DO NOT provide any financial information to the caller. The U.S. Social Security Administration provides the following "red flag" signs that you may be dealing with a scammer:
- The individual claims there is a problem with your account
- They put pressure you to act immediately
- They instruct you to pay in a new, specific way
