Usually when a page is turned in a book, pizza stays on the page—but this summer, kids can flip through pages with a tasty twist as local businesses offer prizes for young readers, one page turn at a time.
Six businesses total are offering a summer reading program, and three of them—Books-A-Million, Pizza Hut, and Panda Express—have locations right here in Statesboro offering prizes to local kids. Each business has their own unique prizes and a reading requirement, encouraging kids and families to remain engaged with reading throughout the summer months.

To earn a free Dog Man bag, kids must read four books from the in-store or online summer reading adventure program and fill out a printable logbook that will require them to answer a couple questions including the title and author of the book, their favorite character and what they felt was the best part of the story. Logbooks and reading lists are also available at the in-store location in Statesboro, Georgia.
Once the summer comes to an end, families can turn in the four logbooks and will then receive a free bookbag!
Pizza Hut has recently launched their first ever summer reading program called "Book It!" Summer of Stories™," which began on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Using the app, parents can set specific reading goals for their children and track their progress, which could earn the kids a free Personal Pan Pizza during June, July, and August—provided they meet the goals set by their parents.
Panda Express has a year-round "Read With Me" program and offers a free kids meal for any child reading five books through the Panda Cub Club summer reading. Check it out here!
Whether it's two battling dragons or simply just a fun, silly story book, all kids are invited to try out and earn awesome prizes to reward their efforts!
