Update 8:40 PM:  Power has been restored.   According to Joel Hanner, Area Manager with Georgia Power Company, this outage was the result of an earlier incident where a transfer truck stuck a communications wire and broke a pole.  This occurred around 1:05 PM at the Fast and Easy, 118 Lanier Drive. This immediately caused wide spread outages temporarily.  Power crews were able to restore a good portion of the outage while a new pole was set.   The power was taken down again around 8:00 PM to transfer the power to the new pole.  This has been completed now and power has been fully restored.

Orignial story: A significant power outage is currently affecting the Fair Road area and stretching into downtown Statesboro. At approximately 8:00 PM this evening, a Georgia Power Company incident left 1,174 customers without electricity.

The outage has had a widespread impact, leaving restaurants, retail stores, and traffic signal lights in the affected zone without power. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when approaching intersections where traffic lights are not functioning and to treat them as four-way stops.
