A two-story home in the Oakfield Subdivision was completely destroyed by fire Saturday night, July 25, 2025. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Bulloch County 911 dispatched the Bulloch County Fire Department around 10:00 PM after a neighbor in the 9000 block of OakField Drive reported heavy flames erupting from the rear of the residence. The Oakfield Subdivision is located approximately four miles from downtown Statesboro.
Upon arrival, the first firefighter on the scene confirmed the severity of the blaze, noting heavy involvement, and immediately requested additional engines, tankers, and personnel. Firefighters battled the intense flames for nearly an hour before bringing the fire under control.
A significant challenge for crews was the distance to the nearest fire hydrant, located several miles south of the subdivision near the Dollar General on Lakeview Road. Tankers were observed shuttling water from this location for several hours to supply the firefighters. Crews remained on scene for an extended period, conducting overhaul operations to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
The homeowner was not present when the fire started, and the cause of the blaze remains undetermined at this time. Bulloch County Fire will conduct a routine cause and origin investigation.
Responding to the scene to provide immediate assistance to the displaced homeowner were representatives from the Bulloch County CAFE Unit, Bulloch County VOAD, and a Red Cross DAT team member. Bulloch County EMS and Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies also responded to assist.
