A Bulloch County School Bus was involved in a minor accident on Thursday morning February 23, 2023 on Hwy. 80 east of Portal. There were no injuries in the accident. Traffic was delayed in the area due to the accident and GSP investigation.
At 7:07 AM Bulloch County Schools notified Bulloch 911 of a three vehicle crash involving a school bus in the area of 25990 Hwy. 80 East of Portal near Bonnett Road. 911 dispatched Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies, GSP, Bulloch County EMS and Bulloch County Fire to the scene. Bulloch County Fire was the first unit on the scene and reported there were no injuries.
Bulloch County EMS responded as a precaution but did not transport anyone to EGRMC.
According to GSP Post 45 Sergent Robbie Scott the school bus was stopped on Hwy. 80 with stop sign and flashing lights engaged. The bus was picking up four children. Two of the children were waiting to get on the bus, two were preparing to get on the bus when the accident occurred.
A black Toyota truck had come to a complete stop when a white cargo van failed to stop and struck the pickup truck pushing it into the back of the school bus. The driver of the van stated to GSP that he fell asleep before striking the second vehicle.
GSP is handling the investigation.
