South Georgia Tormenta FC and defender Nick Akoto have agreed to a one-year contract.
"Nick is a player we have had in our environment via USL League Two in 2022,” Ian Cameron said. “He possesses many tools, which lend perfectly to the professional game, such as size, pace, power and technical proficiency.”
The contract is pending league and federation approval and comes with the option to extend until 2025.
The former Tormenta FC 2 player signs his first professional contract after impressing on and off the pitch with the club’s USL League Two side in 2022.
“As he adapts to the tactical pace and emotion of professional games, we expect to see him blossom with time. When in full flight, this young lad can be thrilling to watch, and we look forward to help launch his professional career,” said Cameron.
Akoto featured in eight games for the League Two side, totaling 594 minutes and contributing a goal for Tormenta FC 2.
Collegiately, Akoto was part of Keiser University’s 2021 NAIA National title. Akoto featured in 34 games for the program and contributed with seven assists in two years.
Prior to Keiser, the English midfielder transferred to Keiser from Tennessee Wesleyan University, where he spent two seasons, scoring five goals and recording eight assists.
In addition to joining Tormenta FC, Akoto will finish his degree through Bellevue University, United Soccer League’s Official Education Partner. Bellevue grants a full scholarship to each USL Championship and League One team annually to be awarded to a player to pursue their undergraduate or graduate degrees.
The growing 2023 roster features a strong core of ten returners with the added power of new midfielders Pedro Fonseca and Elijah Amo, as well as defender Preston Kilwien.
