Monthslong investigation leads to arrest in Bulloch County narcotics trafficking case

A months-long investigation by the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of Jamie Elton Newsome, who is accused of trafficking methamphetamine, fentanyl, and prescription drugs. Deputies seized a half-pound of suspected narcotics, various pills, and cash following a vehicle search near a Statesboro convenience store.

A Statesboro man is facing multiple drug trafficking and possession charges after a targeted investigation by the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team (CST) led to a substantial narcotics seizure and arrest earlier this month.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating Jamie Elton Newsome following tips that he was trafficking methamphetamine, fentanyl, and prescription pills into Bulloch County. The CST, assisted by BCSO K9 and Road Patrol Deputies, made contact with Newsome near a convenience store inside the Statesboro city limits.

Following that encounter, investigators secured and executed search warrants on Newsome’s vehicles. The search yielded approximately a half-pound of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, a variety of prescription medications, and U.S. currency. Newsome was taken into custody and booked at the Bulloch County Jail on several charges.

He is facing the following offenses:

  • Trafficking Methamphetamine
  • Trafficking Fentanyl
  • Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute
  • Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance (2 counts)
  • Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute
  • Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (4 counts)
  • Possession of Drug-Related Object
  • Drugs Not in Original Container

In a statement, Sheriff Noel Brown encouraged residents to report suspected drug activity, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in combating narcotics crimes. “All complaints will remain anonymous and will be investigated thoroughly,” Brown said.
