Beloved Candler County couple Perry and Vendora Cobb died Monday, February 5, 2024, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on US Highway 25. The couple, 90 and 86 respectively, had been married for more than 60 years. Remembrances on Facebook described them as "the sweetest couple" who shared a special relationship with each other and with many members of the community.

Mr. Perry was born in Metter, Georgia, and graduated from Metter High School in 1951. Following his graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years. Following his discharge, he returned to Candler County and married Vendora, then Lanier, in 1959.

Mrs. Vendora was born in Portal, Georgia, and was a 1955 graduate of Portal High School. Following her graduation, she attended Georgia Southern College, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. She began her career with the Screven County Extension Office, where she was employed for 25 years, and then moved on to the Emanuel County Extension Office, where she worked until she retired.

They made their home on the family farm in Candler County, where Perry was a farmer until his retirement. During his retirement, he maintained the Hendricks and Welsh Cemetery. He adopted poodles and fed any dog that came up to his house. She loved her nieces and nephews, genealogy, and poodles.

According to Mrs. Vendora's obituary, their greatest joy was being together, especially enjoying going out to restaurants each meal. Baby CJ's Rib Shack in Portal posted a special tribute to the couple on Facebook, saying the restaurant staff enjoyed every minute of their daily visits and were truly devastated by the loss.

Mr. Cobb is believed to have suffered a medical event that led to the accident.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Keith Hamilton officiating, assisted by Elder Randy Waters. They will be entombed in the mausoleum at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Statesboro & Bulloch County, P.O. Box 581, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.
