Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar had a landslide victory over challenger Ernest Lawton. McCollar won with 1,493 votes to Lawton's 266 votes in the November 2, 2021 municipal election.
Councilman John Riggs defeated challenger Kristine Yager-Rushton by 44 votes. Riggs received 133 votes Yager-Rushton received 89 votes.
Liquor YES
Statesboro residents said YES to the package sales of alcohol by a large margin, 1,305 to 457 votes.
Mayor McCollar feels that if everything goes well we should see the sell of alcohol in Statesboro by second quarter of 2022. The next step is the completion of ordinances to approve the sale of alcohol. That will take several months. When complete they can begin licensing package stores.
Portal TIE
Portal Post 3 incumbent Jerry Lanigan defeated challenger Tom Coleman.
However, in Post 4 there is a tie between Roger Davis, Jr. and Clay Williams the incumbent. Both received exactly 37 votes.
Register incumbents and Liquor defeated
Register Mayor Barbara Rushing was defeated by Donnie Roberts. Incumbent Register district 1 councilman Richard Canady was defeated by Brittany Brannen. Package sales was defeated in Register for a second time. This time it was defeated by one vote.
Brooklet incumbent defeated and yes to alcohol sales
In Brooklet, Becky Kelly defeated Hannah-Joy Dinello for Brooklet City Council Post 3, Post 4 incumbent Gregory Schlierf was defeated by challenger James Harrison.
Sunday and on premises sale of alcohol both passed in Brooklet.
