The Hearts & Hands Clinic is hosting its second annual Grillin’ for Healing 2023 BBQ cook-off fundraiser on March 25 on Akins Pond Road.

The event is open to the public of all ages and will have games, food, live music, cornhole, and a BBQ competition.

The contest portion of Grillin' for Healing is open to 20 teams ready to smoke their competition. Team registration is on a first come, first serve basis, and each team is responsible for a $150 registration fee.

While the event itself is free, those who attend are asked to donate to the Hearts & Hands Clinic, and sponsorships opportunities are also available. Last year’s event raised more than $27,000 for the clinic.

“Last year people were so generous, and our goal this year is $35,000,” said Kara Holland, Hearts and Hands Clinic director.

The Hearts & Hands Clinic offers primary medical care, vision and optometric services, limited dental care, and women’s health services to low-income, uninsured people living in Bulloch County. All patients are ineligible for Medicaid and Medicare, live at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines, and are suffering from chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, and lupus.

“We provide free care to these residents who all have chronic medical conditions -- issues that, without consistent medical care and monitoring, would be life-threatening,” Holland said.

The Hearts & Hands Clinic has sponsorship opportunities open until March 11, 2023. Those interested in getting involved through the competition, donations, or sponsorship opportunities can use the forms and contact information listed below or visit the event Facebook page.
