A 34 year old Statesboro man has died in an early Friday morning crash which occurred at Hwy. 80 East and Woodyard road in Bulloch County.  Richard Pylant, Bulloch County Coroner has identified the deceased man as Michael Middleton.

According the GSP Post 45 Sergeant Robbie Scott, GSP troopers were dispatched by Bulloch County 911 to the crash at 5:11 AM on May 19,2023.

There were two separate, two car crashes, that occurred at this location.   Initially, it was believed it was a multi-car accident.

The first crash occurred when a Nissan Altima was traveling west on Hwy. 80 when the car crossed the center line and impacted a Camry head-on killing the driver of the Camry on impact.  It is suspected that the Altima occupants were in a physical domestic dispute while traveling down the road. The driver of the Altima suffered facial and head injuries, but is stable.  A front seat passenger in the Altima also suffered facial and head injuries and experienced heart failure.  She was resuscitated and was transported to EGRMC where she was stabilized and then transferred to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah in critical condition.

The passenger in the Camry had severe injuries as well and has been transported to Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

Bulloch County EMS dispatched two ambulances which transported the three occupants initially to EGRMC.   Paramedics on the scene requested medical helicopters to the scene, but they were unable to fly due to weather.  Bulloch County Fire responded to the scene to assist as well.

A second crash occurred near the initial accident scene when a Good Samaritan stopped to help the victims in the initial crash.  The area was very dark and an approaching vehicle couldn't see the crash when entering the scene and struck the Good Samaritan's vehicle.  No one was injured in the second crash.

GSP requested their Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) to the scene to assist with the investigation.  Hwy. 80 was closed for over three hours and traffic was detoured while the SCRT team investigated the accident.

GA DOT and Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies assisted with the detour of traffic.
