UPDATE 5/11/23 at 1:30pm: Bulloch County Coroner Richard Pylant has identified the deceased victim of this morning's crash as Jennifer Robinson Jenkins, 53, of Statesboro. Both drivers were from Bulloch County. There is currently no update on the injured 3-year-old.
Grice Connect has received a preliminary report on a fatal, 2-car accident on Zettwell Road this morning around 7:30am. Initial reports from Georgia State Patrol Sergeant Robbie Scott indicate that a Chevrolet truck was driving northbound on Zettwell when it crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling southbound. While fog was thick at the time of the accident, it is not believed to have caused the crash.
The female driver of the Suburban was pronounced dead at the scene. The 28-year-old female driver of the truck was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital for treatment.
A 3-year-old male who was riding in the back seat of the truck was not breathing at the scene. Local medical personnel were able to revive him, and he was life-flighted to Memorial in Savannah, where he remains critical.
The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is en route to investigate. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA of Zettwell Road for the next several hours while they complete their investigation.
