GS Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony to present free concert Tuesday evening at PAC

The Georgia Southern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony present the second concert of the 2023-2024 academic year on November 28 at 7:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center.

The Georgia Southern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony present the second concert of the 2023-2024 academic year on November 28 at 7:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center. Entitled Dancing Spirals of Light, this concert features several works by composers of Japanese heritage performed by the members of the Wind Symphony under the direction of Dr. Patrick K. Carney.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform the second half of the concert under the direction of Interim Director of Bands, Dr. John Franklin, and will feature Gretsch School of Music faculty clarinetist Ms. Kristen Spiridon Sanders on Carl Maria von Weber’s Concertino in C-minor, Op. 26, J109.

Other selections include Astra, a new composition by Georgia composer Katahj Copley, Krump, a work by Scott McAllister based on the style of “krump” street dancing popular in South Central Los Angeles in the 1990s, and the riveting Some treasures are heavy with human tears by John Mackey.
