GDOT Bridge Replacement Proposal

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is seeking public comments on the proposed State Route (SR) 21 BU/SR 73 at Ogeechee Railroad Company bridge replacement project, which requires an off-site detour in Screven County.

Georgia DOT is hosting a virtual Public Information Open House (PIOH) by posting information related to the proposed project and off-site detour on an online platform at https:‌/‌/‌www‌.dot‌.ga‌.gov/‌GDOT/‌Pages/‌PublicOutreach‌.aspx. This internet posting will replace an in-person meeting and allow the public to review the proposed project and provide feedback.

This project proposes to replace the existing railroad overpass bridge on SR 21 BU/SR 73 in the City of Sylvania. The existing bridge, constructed in 1941, is below current design standards.

The proposed bridge would be built in the same location, requiring an off-site detour via SR 21. The new bridge would consist of two 12-foot-wide travel lanes, eight-foot shoulders, six-and-a-half-foot sidewalks, and raising the vertical clearance by approximately six feet.

Georgia DOT invites you to review the materials presented on the webpage and provide comment. Comments will be accepted concerning this project until Tuesday, September 17.
