Gentiva Hospice in Statesboro is looking to add new volunteers to its roster.

Volunteer Coordinator Yevette McCall says volunteers can sit with patients while caregivers run errands or get a mental break, run errands for patients, or simply call patients weekly and check on them.

"As our census grows, we need more volunteers," McCall said, noting that it really only takes two spare hours per week to be a Gentiva volunteer.

The company will do an extensive background check on potential volunteers, and a TB test is required. Gentiva will provide all the necessary training.

"We are always looking for people like you to volunteer," McCall said. "We would love to have you."

Gentiva Hospice provides pain and symptom management, emotional support, spiritual, respite, and bereavement care. Hospice is not only for the patient, but also offers support for the family members, as well.

If you're interested in volunteering, please send an email to [email protected], and you will receive an email back on how to start the process. You can also contact McCall at 912-690-4821.

Gentiva Hospice is located at 112 Hill Pond Road. For more information about Gentiva Hospice, please click here or find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/GentivaHospiceStatesboro
