GAME PREVIEW: Rivals renew acquaintances Saturday in Boone

The Georgia Southern football team heads to the mountains of North Carolina on Saturday to take on long-time rival App State at Kidd Brewer Stadium to wrap up the regular season. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU. The game will also be available via radio on the Georgia Southern Sports Network. Here's all you need to know about the game:

  • Georgia Southern and App State have met 38 previous times with the Mountaineers holding a 21-16-1 lead in a series that dates back to 1932. This is the fourth straight year the two have ended the regular season playing.
  • The Eagles are just 5-11 all-time at Kidd Brewer Stadium and just 5-14-1 all-time in Boone.

10: Ten different receivers have caught a touchdown pass this year, led by five from Derwin Burgess Jr. 

9: Georgia Southern and Appalachian State combined to win nine FCS (I-AA) national championships.

8: App State has won eight of the past 12 games played to take a 21-16-1 edge in the series. The 38 games played makes App Georgia Southern's most-played opponent in program history.

7: Tight end Jjay Mcafee now has seven career touchdown receptions and his 26 catches this season are a new Georgia Southern tight ends record. 

6: Georgia Southern has won all six of its games when it forced at least three turnovers and has lost all five games when it didn't.

5: Defensive end Isaac Walker leads the FBS with five forced fumbles. He is also tied for the national lead with four fumble recoveries.

4 Saturday's game marks the fourth straight season - and only the fourth time in program history - that Georgia Southern and App State end the regular season playing each other.

3: Last year's double overtime game marked the third time in 37 games that App State and Georgia Southern have gone to overtime. Two of those three overtime games went to double overtime.

2: With four more receptions, Khaleb Hood will break the school's single-season receptions record for the second straight season. He sits at 84 catches entering this game with the record being 87.

1: Michael Lantz's 21 made field goals this season rank first in program history as he passed Tyler Bass's 20 makes in 2019. He is ninth in the FBS in field goals per game at 1.91 and 10th in scoring (9.3 ppg).
