Food Lion has been notified of a recall on bulk slicing cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers, Inc., due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall affects only the cucumbers listed along with varieties of in-store prepared products using the cucumbers, such as sushi and vegetable platters. Customers may have purchased the affected products between April 29, 2025, and May 20, 2025.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The affected products have been removed from Food Lion’s produce and prepared foods section.

All affected products were sold between April 29, 2025, and May 20, 2025, at select Food Lion stores, including the Statesboro store. See store list here.
