As the Brooklet and Statesboro communities continue to mourn the heartbreaking losses of Emily Grace Mayo, age 9, and Landyn Wilkerson, age 4, local businesses and residents are rallying this week to support their families through public fundraisers and memorial events.
Texas Roadhouse
Today, Thursday, June 5, Texas Roadhouse in Statesboro will host a fundraiser from 3 to 10 p.m. in memory of Emily, a Brooklet Elementary student remembered for her kindness and joyful spirit. The event includes a bake sale and flower sale, and 10% of restaurant proceeds during that time will benefit Emily’s family. Community members are invited to dine, donate, or volunteer. A percentage night at Texas Roadhouse for Landyn's family is planned for June 16.
Balloon Release
In honor of Landyn Wilkerson, a blue and white balloon release will take place tonight, June 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Sweet and Tenderhearted Childcare at 27206 US Highway 80 W, Portal, where Landyn was loved by his teachers and classmates. The public is invited to attend as a show of love and remembrance.
Longhorn Steakhouse Breakfast
On Saturday, June 7, Longhorn Steakhouse in Statesboro will host an All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. to raise funds for both families. The breakfast includes pancakes, French toast, sausage, eggs, and more. Tickets are $15 for adults and $6 for children under 12, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the families.
Tickets will be sold through the morning of the event at Longhorn. Tickets must be paid for in CASH ONLY.
Gnat's Landing
On June 9, Gnat's Landing in Statesboro will be hosting a percentage night in memory of Landyn and Emily. Make a food purchase between 3-9pm, and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the families' costs.
Through these efforts, the community continues to surround both families with compassion, prayer, and support in the face of unimaginable grief.
