A vehicle crash at mile marker 101 on I-16 westbound in Candler County has resulted in one driver being transported by EMS to Candler County Hospital, while the other driver sustained fatal injuries.
Candler County emergency responders received a 911 call at 9:18am on Friday, May 30, alerting them to the crash.
Candler County EMS, Candler County Sheriff’s Office, Metter Fire Department, and Georgia State Patrol (GSP) responded to the call for assistance.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) responded to assist in the investigation, as did GDOT to help by diverting traffic, as I-16 westbound was closed for a time.
According to Marcus McCrae, Candler County Deputy Coroner, the 27-year-old driver of one of the rigs was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the deceased is being withheld until family members can be notified.
