Citizens driving down Interstate 16 or Hwy. 301 South on Monday, April 10, 2023 around 2:30 PM witnessed a multi agency police escort of Dr. Howard Wasdin to Jesup. According to Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown, this escort was part of a procession to Jesup.
Dr. Howard Wasdin, a decorated veteran was killed in a small plane crash on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
According to a story in Jesup's Press Sentinel he was piloting the plane when it crashed just off the runway at Wayne County's William A. Zorn Airport. Dr. Wasdin owned Absolute Precision Chiropractic in Jesup.
He was a highly decorated Navy SEAL who had been involved in the 1993 Somalia operation dramatized in the movie Black Hawk Down.
He was a best selling author and motivational speaker. He had spoken several times in Statesboro. The last known time he spoke in Statesboro was on October 16, 2021 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church.
Reinehart and Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements in Jesup. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Reinhart Chapel with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The original story has been edited to remove Dr. John Wasdin of Statesboro. Dr. John Wasdin grew up in Jesup as well and even though they share the same name and both grew up in the same small Georgia city, Dr. John Wasdin confirmed they are not related.
