The Special Olympics Unified Sports program focuses on promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences and joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. Teams are currently being established through each state’s Special Olympics program. Tormenta FC is looking for male and female athletes 16 years and older with intellectual disabilities to be a part of the South Georgia Tormenta FC Unified Team.

For the project, the school’s third and fourth graders will research plants native to Georgia’s Piedmont ecoregion to then plan, install and manage a garden to attract a variety of pollinators. The garden will be used as an outdoor classroom, where older students will teach younger students about pollinators, native plants and biodiversity. Summer campers will work in the garden when school is out of session, and proceeds from a farmer’s market next fall will fund future garden projects.

The season begins at midnight on January 1 and is scheduled to run through midnight on March 31.

Statesboro Area Transit will resume normal operations on Tuesday, December 26th.

Christmas in Brooklet, GA is a very special moment for many in this community. The Brooklet Kiwanis Club reminded the community what a special place Brooklet is during their annual Christmas Eve (EVE) breakfast.

Jennifer Durrence and her fiance, Shawn Coulter, have taken what most would have dismissed as an antiquated building and renovated it into the home of their dreams. Many may remember it as the community meat locker in Nevils. Their diligent work has enabled them to spend Christmas in their new home.
