Wednesday night, September 15, 2021 at 10:30 pm, GS students and parents were frightened when GS sent an Eagle Alert out to students and parents on the Statesboro campus notifying them of a reported shooting that had occured near Kennedy Hall, a dorm on the GS Statesboro Campus.

Here is the email version of the EAGLE ALERT (Statesboro Campus): A reported shooting incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. on the Statesboro Campus near Kennedy Hall. Please avoid the area while law enforcement investigates the incident. The reported assailant was seen driving away from campus and police do not believe there is a continued threat to the campus community. Contact Public Safety at 912-478-5234 if you see anything suspicious or have information.

Grice Connect began being flooded with messages from parents who wanted more information on the shooting, status of the victim and if the shooter had been located.

Thursday morning GS released this update

Georgia Southern University Police continue to investigate a shooting that reportedly occurred on Sept. 15 around 9:30 p.m. near Kennedy Hall on Georgia Southern's Statesboro Campus.

No one known to be involved in the incident is affiliated with Georgia Southern.

Information from the investigation indicates the shooting was a result of an accident off-campus at the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Lanier Drive that led to a road rage incident.

In an attempt to get away from the assailant's pursuit, the victim turned his car onto a road that led him onto campus where he was followed by the assailant.

The assailant then fired shots at the victim's car near Kennedy Hall.

The assailant then drove away from campus.

The victim suffered minor injuries during the incident but was not directly hit by gunfire.

Anyone with information on the accident or road rage incident is asked to call Sgt. Danny Garrigus at University Police at 912-478-5234.

Minor injuries no one transported to hospital

Grice Connect confirmed that the victim was evaluated by Bulloch County EMS at the scene but did not require transport to the hospital.

Initial reports came in that the victim was struck by gunfire. This was not true. No one was injured from shots fired by the assailant.
