The Statesboro and Bulloch County community responds to the sudden and tragic death of two children in a Saturday night house fire. Grice Connect has received a large number of messages from citizens who have been overwhelmed and deeply touched by this tragedy and want to help.
A family friend, Lori Pollard, has set up a GoFundMe site to help cover funeral expenses for the two children and give the family some financial assistance in finding another home. In addition to the loss of their children, their home was destroyed in the fire.
The gofundme identifies the children as Itzayana (3) and Monica (2).
Fostering Bulloch clothes closet is providing clothing. A local food pantry has provided some food. We will update this story as we learn of other efforts to assist this family.
Difficult and Tragic Loss
Even with the rapid response and heroic actions of Bulloch County Deputies and Statesboro firefighters, they were not able to save the children. A loss this great is also very difficult for the firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement as many of them have children of their own.
“Any fatality as a result of a fire is tragic but when children are involved it is especially heartbreaking. Despite our firefighters’ best efforts, the amount of fire and smoke present when units arrived on-scene made it unlikely anyone would be able to survive that extreme of an environment. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family of the two children” commented Statesboro Fire Chief Tim Grams.
The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Fire Marshal’s Office are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
