Hurricane Season officially opened on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 and NOAA predicts an above-normal 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season. With this in mind, Ted Wynn, Bulloch County Public Safety and Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director hosted a hurricane tabletop exercise on Wednesday.
The exercise was held at the Bulloch County Sheriff's training center and led by Collin Hopf, Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) Area Three Emergency Management Field Coordinator.
Joe Barnum, GEMA Community Partnerships Manager also attended the exercise from GEMA headquarters in Atlanta. Barnum works closely with Bulloch County VOAD in providing rumination aid during disasters.
Over thirty representatives from public safety, public works and Bulloch VOAD attending the workshop.
Wynn opened the meeting reviewing the counties emergency operations plan and identifying agencies Emergency Support Function role as part of the plan.
Hopf then led the group through a simulated hurricane exercise known as a "blue sky tabletop exercise". The exercise began at 72 hours before a hurricane makes direct landfall impacting Bulloch County.
Each agency had the opportunity to discuss the actions they would take during each increment of time. This continued all the way to landfall and then several days past the hurricane event to include recovery efforts.
"All of the partners in the room are critical to helping lead our community in a time of disaster including hurricanes. They were all generous of their time and commitment to making sure our community is prepared for hurricane season," said Ted Wynn, Bulloch Public Safety and EMA director. "The best way for citizens to join us in preparation is the build a kit, make a plan and stay informed."
