The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) has $70,000 in scholarships up for grabs for students pursuing agricultural and veterinary vocations.

“Agriculture offers many exciting career opportunities. Both farmers and consumers depend on the many jobs agriculture creates such as mechanics, large animal veterinarians and food scientists,” said David Cromley, president of the Bulloch County Farm Bureau.

The GFA is a nonprofit organization that helps to prepare the next generation of leaders for success in the sector.

On Jan. 11, Cromley announced the $70,000 in scholarships for students pursuing a degree in agriculture, veterinary medicine, family and consumer sciences or a related field.

“I encourage any student who qualifies for one of the GFA scholarships to apply,” said Cromley.

The scholarship funds are available in four categories:

  • Scholarship for agriculture
  • Technical college scholarship for agriculture
  • Rising college junior or senior scholarship for agriculture
  • UGA College of Veterinary Medicine scholarship

Scholarship for agriculture

In this category, 10 scholarships of $3,000 are available for high school students who plan to enter any accredited college or university in Georgia in the 2023-24 academic year.

Applicants must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in agricultural and environmental sciences or a related agricultural field. The top three applicants in this category will be eligible for an additional $1,000.

Technical college scholarship for agriculture

Four scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded to applicants who are enrolled in a Georgia accredited technical college. Applicants must be majoring in an area of ag or an ag-related field of study, such as welding or mechanics.

The top two ranked applicants will be eligible for an additional $500.

Rising college junior or senior scholarship for agriculture

This scholarship will award 10 scholarships of $2,000 to college students who have at least two semesters of college remaining to receive an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in Georgia.

Applicants must be majoring in agriculture and environmental sciences, family and consumer sciences or an ag-related field.

UGA College of Veterinary Medicine scholarship

Two scholarships of $5,000 are avaliable to students currently enrolled in the UGA Veterinary Medicine program specializing in large animal and food animal practice.

All applications must be submitted online by March 1. The GFA will award scholarships in the spring.
