Bulloch History | Old Hotels and Auto Courts in Statesboro

Thanks to McCook's Pharmacy for making Bulloch Tid Bit's, produced by the Bulloch County Historical Society, available on Grice Connect. Thanks to McCook's Pharmacy for making the replay of the Bulloch Tid Bit's available on Grice Connect.

For decades, the police patch of Statesboro read, “Statesboro, The Tourist city.” Some of the first hotels were the Rushing Hotel, the Rountree Hotel and the Jaeckel Hotel. The Jaeckel and Rountree were built near the train depots. During the 1930’s another form of lodging came to town which was the auto camp or court. There was the Modern Ogeechee Motor Court and the Tobacco Trail Court. Come take a trip with us.

Bulloch Tidbits are a weekly feature written and narrated by the Bulloch County Historical Society (BCHS) Executive Director Virginia Anne Franklin Waters.  Each week Virginia Anne takes Grice Connect readers onto a historical journey back in time saluting the people and places that have make Statesboro and Bulloch a wonderful place to call home.

Bulloch Tidbits on Grice Connect are made possible thanks to the generous support of McCook's Pharmacy a locally owned pharmacy located at 23630 US-80 in Statesboro.
