The Ogeechee is 294 miles long. It begins in Greene County, GA and flows into the Atlantic Ocean in Ossabaw Sound. Jack Leigh, a friend of my Daddy’s, documented life on the Ogeechee in a famous book entitled, The Ogeechee: A River and its People. Did you know that Ogeechee River shad is served in fine restaurants as a delicacy? It is believed that the name Ogeechee comes from the Muskogee Indian term meaning “River of the Yuchis.”

Bulloch Tidbits are a weekly feature written and narrated by the Bulloch County Historical Society (BCHS) Executive Director Virginia Anne Franklin Waters.  Each week Virginia Anne takes Grice Connect readers onto a historical journey back in time saluting the people and places that have make Statesboro and Bulloch a wonderful place to call home.

Bulloch Tidbits on Grice Connect are made possible thanks to the generous support of McCook's Pharmacy a locally owned pharmacy located at 23630 US-80 in Statesboro.
