South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced its initial roster decisions following the closure of the 2023 USL League One season. Ahead of the club’s sixth year in the professional league, a good handful of strong players will be returning to push for another League One title in the 2024 season.
Defenders, Collin Mocyunas and Preston Kilwien, are under contract for the 2024 USL League One season as well as midfielders, Jackson Khoury and Pedro Fonseca. Tormenta FC has exercised the 2024 club option of defender Nick Akoto, pending league and federation approval.
These five returning athletes played integral roles in Tormenta FC’s success and strategic play in the 2023 USL League One season.
Collin Mocyunas and Preston Kilwien will both be returning to the back line this season. Mocyunas made nine appearances for the team while Kilwien made 29 appearances having the second most minutes played of anyone in the squad. Kilwien also recorded 100 clearances ranking eighth among all USL League One defenders. Midfielder, Jackson Khoury, is returning following an impressive season in which he scored seven goals and assisted six during his 32 appearances for the club. Khoury’s performances earned him the USL League One Young Player of the Year award for the 2023 campaign. Fonseca will play a big hand in the team’s goal scoring next season, as he tallied up 6 goals and 6 assists in the 2023 USL League One season. Defender, Nick Akoto, will be another important player returning for head coach Ian Cameron, having played the fourth most minutes with 2,176 minutes played.
Tormenta FC has declined the 2024 contract options for Davey Mason, John Murphy Jr. and Elijah Amo.
As for the players that are out of contract, Arthur Bosua, Christopher Heckenberg, Daltyn Knutson, Deshawon Nembhard, Jake Dengler, Kazaiah Sterling, Kingsford Adjei, Mukwelle Akale, Pablo Jara, TJ Bush and Tobias Otieno will not be returning to Tormenta FC for the 2024 USL League One season.
