Panthers Soccer Sweeps Doubleheader Against McIntosh County

Both Portal Men's and Women's soccer teams defeated the McIntosh County Buccaneers on Tuesday afternoon. Both teams have been playing well and have swept the season series against the Bucs.

Portal-Both Portal varsity soccer teams were in action when they hosted the McIntosh County Buccannears on a chilly Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Panthers took home a 4-1 victory, while the men outlasted their opponents with a 3-2 win. 

Lady Panthers Remain Unbeaten

The Panthers women's soccer team came into Tuesday's game with a 7-0-1 record. Both teams came into the game on winning streaks. 

 For the first half, it felt like this may be the game that Portal may let slip. However, 4 goals in the final 31 minutes of the match put all feelings to rest. Goals by Hilda Reyes and Colby Stewart late in the game put the nail in the coffin. 

After a scoreless first half, Maggie Brannen broke the seal on the scoring with a goal in the 31st minute. Roughly 4 minutes later, McIntosh County's Reagen McMahan tied the game up at 1. Brannen would follow up with another goal in the 26th minute to give the Panthers the lead back. 

Defensively, the Lady Panthers played well all game. Millie Scarborough finished with 8 saves in the match. The Lady Panthers improve to 8-0-1 with a 7-0 record in region play. The McIntosh County Buccannears fall to 7-5 with a 2-5 record in region play. 

Panthers Win in TIght Game

The Panthers were able to outlast their opponents on Tuesday, The Panthers were led by sophomore Nehemiah Lovett. Lovett finished with a hat trick in the game. He scored all 3 goals for his team. 

McIntosh County's Brandon Johnson and Neo West  scored the two goals for the Bucs. 

WIth this win, Portal sweeps the season series against McIntosh County.

Portal's record improves to 6-2 with a 4-2 record in region play. The Buccannears fall to 2-7 on the season with a 2-3 record in region play.

The Portal Panthers soccer teams will host Montgomery County on Friday, March 22. The Lady Panthers will start at 4:00 p.m. with the men starting shortly after.
