Thank you, readers, for your patience as we catch up on content that was delayed by our coverage of Tropical Storm Debby.

The Statesboro High football team was the nightcap for the First Friday pep rally. Head Coach Matt Dobson along with his children led the Blue Devils to the Statesboro Courthouse.

Coach Dobson spoke on how his team is trying to carry over the ending of last season to the upcoming campaign. Statesboro took home their first playoff win in 10 years in the 2023 season. "These guys have tasted a little bit of success in the postseasons, and it's like when you eat good food you want more of it," Dobson said.

This will be Dobson's 2nd year as the head coach of the Blue Devils. He has gained the reputation of being a "player's coach." Junior Keon Childers spoke a little bit about what he does for his players. "He tries to get everybody reps," Childers said. "He likes competing and having fun, that's it."

The players are hungry to get back to the playoff and prove the haters wrong. "Everybody was doubting us talking about 'we not making it to the playoffs, we not going to make it past the first round,'" SHS junior, Rashad Chavers said. "We just want to prove everyone different."

Statesboro has a scrimmage on Friday, August 9th against the Islands Sharks. The Blue Devils will kick off the regular season against the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets on Friday, August 16th at Fred Shavers field.

Statesboro High students are excited about the highly anticipated matchup with Southeast Bulloch. "We can beat SEB, we are going to blow them out," Jaden Williams said.

The Blue Devils closed out the pep rally letting everyone in attendance know that the team is filled with guys who "got that dog in them" -- ready to fight and win.
