Sami passed away at the age of 83, at East Georgia Regional Hospital in Statesboro, Georgia,on July 22nd, 2022. She grew up in the north, but lived most of her adult life in South Florida. She and her husband, Charlie, moved to Statesboro in 2016 to be closer to family.
Sami had an amazing story and her life was filled with many twists and turns. Growing up, she always thought of herself as a self-conscious and “awkward” young girl, but in spite of that she decided she wanted to be a singer — and she found her confidence on stage. Sami loved performing and entertaining people. She started out singing wherever she could and though she’d married young and had children to take care of, she eventually made her way to bigger stages all over the world. In the 60s and 70s, she was very glamorous and played in supper clubs working alongside many famous celebrities. As her kids grew, she traveled less but still performed regularly on Miami Beach.
In the late 70s, she finally met Charlie, the love of her life, when she hired him to be in the band she was putting together. They started a country band, and became very popular in South Florida venues. As much as she loved performing, she reached a point in her life where she was still searching for something better. One of her bandmates introduced her to a Hebrew/Christian Missionary who told her about Jesus. She had never been “religious” before, but she decided to surrender her life that night, and everything changed. She immediately quit playing in nightclubs and eventually, she and Charlie (who’d also given his life to Jesus) started writing and performing Christian Music together. They went to Nashville and recorded an album and started a music ministry called “Butterfly”. They also became worship leaders in their church in Boynton Beach, Florida.
As time went on, Sami still loved to sing and missed it terribly when she was no longer able (though she still managed to find opportunities to perform her songs even into her 80s). She also deeply loved her husband, her children and grandchildren, and her dogs and cats. She had a great sense of humor and an eye for decorating and creating a beautiful home. She loved her home in Statesboro and she loved her church.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Hester Stevens Trull, father Harold Arvidia Trull, sister Lois Coleman Trull, brothers, Harold A. Trull, and Christopher Trull, and her beloved beagle Miggy.
She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Fye, her children, Mary Hardwick Davis (Jeff), Michael Cannon (Tammy), Chad Rodriguez and Mathew Spector (Julie); her grandchildren, Julia A. Shuman (Cory), William A.
