Mrs. Robbie Lou Gordon, age 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at home. She was a resident and native of Sylvania, Georgia born on May 6, 1925, the sixth child of the late Rufus Burgest, Sr. and Marie Cooper Burgest. She received her formal education in Sylvania, Georgia.

On April 6, 1946 she married her childhood friend and love, Reggie James “RJ” Gordon in Sylvania, Georgia. Soon after their nuptials the newlyweds moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they lived for forty years. During that time they raised and nurtured a family and started R&R Auto Repair. In 1986 Robbie and RJ returned to their roots by officially moving back to Sylvania, Georgia. She joined Simmons Branch Baptist Church in Sylvania, Georgia where she remained a faithful member.

She was a loving devoted wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She cultivated a home environment where everyone was loved and welcomed. In addition to her love of God and family, she enjoyed working in her garden and caring for a multitude of plants. She was a woman of few words, but she spoke with strength, authority and confidence. She was our rock, resourceful and wise.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Reggie James Gordon, her beloved parents, great-grandson Jeshua Claude and her fifteen siblings.

She leaves her legacy and memories to be cherished by her family of four daughters and a son-in-law: Dolores Claude (William, Sr.), Cherryl Smith, Wendy Gordon and Dyan Gordon of Sylvania, Georgia; eight grandchildren William Smith, IV, Melissa Claude Miller, Sabrina Morgan (Patrick), Reggie Smith, William Claude, Jr., Ruandi Boyd, Naima Boyd and Aaron Gordon; eight great-grandchildren Marquita Smith, William Smith, V, Brandon Smith, Sr., Tiondre Boyd, Demetrius Boyd, Kyle Gordon, Quenton Boyd, and Jabari Morgan; two great great grandchildren Brandon Smith, Jr., Pharaoh Boyd, dear friend and sister-in-law Pearl Gordon Burns, sister-in-law Lorraine Burgest, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A walk through visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc., Statesboro, Georgia.

Mrs. Gordon will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.

The funeral service will be held on February 3, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Simmons Branch Baptist Church, Sylvania, Georgia.

Interment will be at Friendship Memorial Cemetery, Friendship Road, Sylvania, Georgia.

Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
