Naomi Stephens Jenkins

Naomi Stephens Jenkins, 92, of Newington passed away at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice on Sunday morning, April 2, 2023.

Naomi was born in Girard, GA, to the late James Vernon and Mary Virginia Godbee. She was employed with the United States Postal Service for over twenty years until her retirement, working in many roles and several Post Offices in the area. She was a home maker, and loved decorating and making floral arrangements out of things she found in nature. She was also an avid turkey and deer hunter and had farmed pine trees with her husband. She was a member of the Newington Baptist Church, and the Women's Sunday School Class. She will be fondly remembered for the love and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and with friends, dancing and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Sidney Albert Jenkins, a sister, Mary Greenwell, father and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Ruby Jenkins, and a brother-in-law, Glen and Sarah Jenkins.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and F.M. Burch, and Marsha and Gary Bland, all of Newington, grandchildren; Hollie Pryor of Statesboro, and Ginger and Josh Hughes of Lenoir, NC, great-grandchildren, Ethan Pryor, Luke Pryor, Ella Hughes, Elam Hughes, and Emelia Hughes, many nieces and nephews, a special cousin, Margaret Newton, and caretakers, Maggie Gaston, Charlotte Kemp and Louise Anderson.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Newington City Cemetery at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Karen Zeigler officiating. The family will receive friends for an hour prior at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Jenkins and Gary Jenkins.
